Dev Anand: The evergreen icon of Bollywood romance

Born on 26 September 1923, Dharam Devdutt Pishorimal Anand, known as Dev Anand is a face of style, youth, romance and everything cool in the history of Indian cinema. Dev Saab has brought a lot of trendsetting styles through his films and songs. Be it clothing, haircut, the walk, or the talk. Dev Saab's following can be found easily everywhere in almost 3 decades of his stardom. Dev Anand’s personality and charisma are unquestionable till date. Today marks the 94th birth anniversary of the legendary actor and filmmaker.

Since my childhood, I’ve been listening to songs my father played on cassettes at home or in the car when we went out. Most of those songs became my favorite because they are really good. Be it in terms of lyrics or the music or the vocals, they are just amazing. I used to ask my dad about the songs and he would tell me everything, like which film the song belonged to and who gave the vocals, who composed and how it is filmed in the movie. And guess who was the actor in most of the songs? Dev Anand. It was that time when I grew fond of the actor. He is both my Mum and Dad’s favorite. They still consider his movies Jewel Thief and Guide as their favorites. And why? Simply because of his persona.

I was a 90’s kid growing in one of the fastest decades the world has ever seen. Everything changing rapidly...except for my Dad’s playlist. Today, almost 25 years later, I still listen to all those songs whenever I feel like going retro. His music represented freshness and energy. The lyrics were so true to life. Here’s a list of a few Dev Anand songs. I even prioritized them according to the time of the day they fit best to listen.
