Toilet Ek Prem Katha: A powerful take on a very serious issue

Akshay Kumar is known to for his distinct movie choices. From Baby to Airlift to Jolly LLB 2, Akshay Kumar pick stories which are entertaining as well as relevant and carry an important message with them. Toilet EK Prem Katha, his upcoming movie, is a great example of this. Its trailer was released yesterday and it was amazing. The humorous take on such a serious issue is a smart move as people tend to connect with humor more than any other genre. The lack of toilets and easy access to them is a major problem in rural India. But as the trailer rightly showed, people in those areas do not consider it as a problem. They have grown accustomed to it as they showed in a hilarious way in the trailer.

The movie has Bhumi Pednekar of the Dum Laga Ke Haisha fame as the main actress. In a first few seconds of her appearance, she proves that she isn’t there just to dance and look pretty. As the trailer shows, she is the reason the whole revolution starts. She plays Akshay Kumar’s love interest who eventually marries him. Bhumi portrays a strong woman who doesn’t compromise her ideals which was made abundantly clear in the trailer when she puts her foot down and refuses to go outside the house to tend to nature’s call. It’s in this moment when we know that she’s going against something that everyone else considers ‘normal’.

Divyendu Sharma of the Pyaar Ka Punchnama fame, who plays the role of Akshay Kumar’s friend was a pleasant surprise. But the most promising character is of Sudhir Pandey, who plays Akshay’s father. He looks like the character and has some hilarious dialogues.
