The Cannes 2017 is held every year and is without a doubt, the most
talked about event for all the glamour that it brings along. The winners
for the same were announced recently and here’s a peek into who won
The Palme d'Or is the highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival. The 2017 Palme d’Or went to Ruben Östlund’s satire “The Square” starring Claes Bang and Elisabeth Moss, which came as a surprise.
The Grand Prix is the second-most prestigious prize of the festival after the Palme d'O bestowed by the jury of the festival on one of the competing feature films. This year the award was bagged by French AIDS drama “120 Beats Per Minute” directed by Robin Campillo.
After Grand Prix, third on the list is the Jury Prize chosen by the Jury from the "official section" of movies at the festival. Andrey Zvyagintsev’s “Loveless” won the same this season.
Joaquin Phoenix accepted best actor honors for “You Were Never Really Here,” appearing totally unprepared on stage in a pair of Converse sneakers. He transformed himself for the kidnap thriller into a war veteran.
Diane Kruger was awarded the best actress for the terrorism drama “In the Fade” directed by Fatih Akin which was her first German-language turn.
Nicole Kidman who had four of her projects in Cannes was awarded a special prize owing to the 70th Anniversary of the festival. Will smith accepted the award in her absence.
The much awaited Cannes season ended after a two week speculation on winners, who were truly deserved. We hope to see some Indians on the list next year :)
